Demolition of Overhead Conveyer and Furnace System

Building 472 Paint Shop, NAS North Island, Coronado, CA

Bayside supported the demolition of an overhead steel conveyor system including mezzanines, drying ovens and bracing and support beams up to the Paint Shop ceiling. Approximately 40 tons of steel was removed.  Electric scissor lifts provided a platform for the workers (with appropriate safety measures in place, and sections of steel were lowered with the aid of a forklift.

Since the structure was being demolished in an active painting shop, negative air containment areas were designed to prevent hazardous dusts from being released and to establish a safe zone for workers.  Personal and perimeter air was monitored to ensure that engineering controls were working effectively.
